Are you in school year 11 or 12 at school? Keen on delivering and leading football activities? Want to further your knowledge? The FA Young Leadership Camp maybe what you’re looking for.
Each year the FA give young leaders in school years 11 and 12 an opportunity to put themselves forward to attend a prestigious National training camp.
This year the camp will take place at St George’s School, Ascot from 14th July – Friday 18th July 2008. This will involve a whole variety of learning opportunities around leadership skills, team building and football in general. The event which will be run by National FA staff and organised by young leaders will cover a whole breadth of football disciplines, from learning about coaching and refereeing, to sports science and goalkeeping, and on to disability football and the new and exciting game of 5-a-side called Futsal! The event was opened by Sir Trevor Brooking, before the 100 young leaders from across the country embarked on learning about the above areas of the game.
Last year as well as attending the FA Young Leaders Camp, four young leaders were selected to go to Malawi to support our International Placement programme ‘Changing Lives, Saving Lives.’ A fantastic opportunity and life changing moment we’re sure you’ll agree. Plus there is the chance to volunteer and work at national, regional and county football events in England too.

One of the young leaders chosen to go to Malawi this year was Prathiv Kohlia AKA Storma from Bosworth Community College. He was one of four young leaders tasked with helping young female African leaders to organise and deliver football activities to Children in Malawi. Please click on attached document for Storma’s Diary of events in Africa.
In the East Midlands Region, a regional camp is held before the national camp. Here, all 5 counties within the region nominate 10 young leaders to attend the day long camp where they undertake various workshops to learn about various aspects of football. In 2007 these included media training, refereeing and FUNdamental skills. From here a male and female from each county is selected to attend the National Camp.
Last year Myles Clements, Amina Gani and Rupesh Popat attended the National Camp in Ascot representing Leicestershire. Storma who went to Malawi was part of the organising committee for the camp and showed such high quality leadership skills, the FA decided to reward him with one of the places in Africa.
The 2008 Regional Camp will take place on 9th April at Leicestershire & Rutland County FA, Holmes Park. Application Forms can be downloaded from the related documents section on this page. Nominees for the camp must currently be in Year 11 or Year 12 at school or college during academic Year 2007/08 and must be 16 or 17 between March-July 2008.
