Wheelchair (Power-chair) Football is a fantastic, exciting, adapted game of football, with over 20 teams around the Country competing in a National League Competition. League fixtures are held regularly throughout the season, with teams competing at different levels to ensure players are able to compete on a level playing field. All players, male, female, youngsters or adults are able to take part.
So, with all this in mind a commitment to developing opportunities for wheelchair users in Leicestershire and Rutland, is one of the many focus areas within the football development department.
The Leicestershire & Rutland County Football Association, Inclusive Football Partnership, Leicester City Council, Leicestershire & Rutland Sport, Leicester City Schools Sports Partnership, Leicester City Football Club and the East Midlands Federation for Disability Sport are all very keen to drive this development forward and are working together to build a sustainable structure for the future of the game locally. We are currently seeking Funding through a variety of agencies and also seeking company sponsorship.
Specialist equipment is used to play the game. Attachments are fitted to power-chairs to enable players to pass the ball around very skilfully, therefore developing good team play. If players do not have power-chairs, they can be moved into specialist chairs, we do have hoists for this purpose.
So, If you are interested in ‘getting involved’ with this exciting new development, whether it be in a capacity as a player, coach, volunteer, administrator, referee or maybe you are interested in sponsorship of our soon to be formed Leicester Power-Chair Football Club, or require information about the forthcoming Power-Chair Events, contact Mary Rudkin as below.
