Loughborough Foxes Women and Girls FC School-Club Link Programme

3:19 PM, Tuesday, 27 November 07. School-Club

Loughborough Foxes Women & Girls FC was highlighted to be part of the Regional PESSCL Pilot programme funded by dcms, Sport England and Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport. The club received funding to deliver; a school-club link programme with four local primary schools, funding for club coaches to attend a Level 1 CCF, which has led to the club gaining the FA Charter Standard award, and also to deliver a JFO course to club players, which will be rolled out in the New Year.

Six weeks of coaching was delivered to Year 5&6 girls in Stonebow Primary School, Thorpe Acre Junior School, Boothwood Primary School and Holywell Primary School, with over 40 girls taking part. The six weeks of coaching culminated in a festival where the girls could show all they had learned.

The festival took place on Saturday 24th November,at Loughborough College and it saw 33 girls take part. The morning started off with a fun warm up for the excitable players, while family and friends looked on freezing cold from the sidelines! Matches lasted 10 minutes each way, playing a round robin tournament. Holywell, Thorpe Acre Juniors and Stonebow participated in the tournament, with Stonebow winning the festival.

Loughborough Foxes Women & Girls FC hopes these girls will become part of the club, continuing to train and creating a new team for next season. To improve club links with local schools, the Foxes who are now an FA Charter Standard Club with help from this programme, are running coaching sessions at Loughborough College Rubber Crumb from 10-11am for the next three Saturday mornings, starting 1st December. These sessions are aimed at girls in school years 5-6 and cost just £1 per session. If you are interested in attending these sessions, please contact Steve Wilkinson 07801 563940.
