Leicestershire Local Area Agreement (Hinckley & Bosworth and North West Leicestershire)Salary: Grade 5 £19,463 Fixed term contract to 31st March 2009 Hours: 37 per week. As part of the Leicestershire Together Local Area Agreement, the Leicester-Shire and Rutland County Sports Partnership, Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council and North West Leicestershire District Council are looking to appoint a Physical Activity Specialist for the area.
The role of the post will be to increase the levels of physical activity amongst non participant adult groups through direct delivery and partnership working with voluntary and statutory agencies.
There are currently 3 other area based posts and a further 7 district based posts (working in Charnwood, Melton, North West Leicestershire, Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, Blaby, and Hinckley and Bosworth). Each post has local targets as a contribution to the countywide target to increase current levels of physical activity amongst adults by 4.66% by March 2009.
Responsibilities:
• to develop and co-ordinate a range of sport and physical activity programmes
• to work with target groups and communities to increase levels of physical activity by individuals
• to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity within target communities
• to report on the project to the Local Sports Alliances
Your primary focus will be working with the following groups:
• Rural Areas
• Older People
• Disability Groups
Qualifications and experience:
• You must have experience of delivering physical activity programmes or coaching sport in a community environment
• You must possess a level 2 or equivalent practical fitness qualification, a first aid qualification, a leader qualification (e.g. walk leaders) and preferably also possess an NGB coaching qualification in one or more sports
• You must also hold a current driving licence and be mobile across Leicestershire
• You should have the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good IT skills and the have ability to evaluate sessions.
