Referees Summit 2022

The Summit brought together all officials across the County!

On Thursday 29th September 2022 we held the return of the annual Referee Summit with over 130 referees in attendance across the County. Referee Development Officer Jacob Lehane opened the evening with a review of 2021/2022 and a taste of what’s come from the County FA in referee support and development during the 2022/23 season. The support is shaped by the referees of the County and Jacob thanked all members of the Referee Development Workforce (Referee Secretaries, Mentors, Tutors and Observer) for their continued support to refereeing across Leicestershire & Rutland.

Following Jacob, Daniel Meeson The FA Head of Refereeing- Technical and Development, provided an FA update of the exciting opportunities available to all referees across the Country.

We then returned to Jacob who announced the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA Young Referee of the Year… Edgar Brown. Then onto Leicestershire & Rutland County FA Referee of the Year…. Karl Donaghey. These awards were voted for by their colleagues and we wish them a massive congratulations on their achievement.

Finally, Premier League and FIFA Referee Anthony Taylor gave the room a fascinating insight into his preparation for the 2022 Qatar World Cup and tips on how to make key decisions under pressure.

Again, congratulations to the award winners and a big thank you to those who attended!
