Women and Girls' Football

Football is the largest team sport for females, with over 250,000 participants in England.

Nationally, female football is growing and developing, with The FA having launched a new strategy for the female game entitled ‘The Game Changer’ in July 2013, which will run through to 2018. The document can be downloaded in the related documents section below.

Women's and girls' football continues to be the number one female team sport, as 1.38 million girls and women play various forms of the game in England.

It is our aim at Leicestershire & Rutland County FA to engage with female players whatever their age or ability and to point them towards opportunities that are right for them.

Whether you’re a beginner and want to try football for the first time, want to push yourself at a higher level or maybe you’ve been away from the game for a period of time and wish to get back into it, there are opportunities for you.

Leicestershire & Rutland County FA Development Officers are available to assist in the development of all aspects of the women’s and girls’ game, with the primary aim being to increase participation and improve access to local playing opportunities.

In the county we have over 100 female youth teams and 36 female adult teams. We also have a Female Futsal League. Details of the Women’s, Girls and Futsal Leagues are below; each league will be able to direct you to clubs in your area to get involved with.
