Coach Spotlight - Ravi Gorania

Introducing the coach spotlight for September 2024: Ravi Gorania

At just 19 years old, Ravi Gorania is already making a significant impact in the world of coaching. His passion for football goes beyond the pitch. It’s about inspiring the next generation.

Throughout the 2023/24 season, he has been a familiar face at the Leicestershire and Rutland County FA's CPD (Continuing Professional Development) evenings, eager to sharpen his coaching skills and make a difference with GNG Football Club.

His dedication has not gone unnoticed. After collaborating with County FA Football Development Officers (FDOs) and FA Coach Developers, Ravi recently achieved a major milestone by securing his first paid coaching role with Leicester City in the Community. This opportunity allowed him to immerse himself in a professional environment, shadowing academy coaches and gaining invaluable insights.

As he steps into the 2024/25 season, Ravi’s influence is set to grow even further. He has joined the Leicestershire and Rutland County FA Young Leaders, where he hopes to shape the future of grassroots football for young people across the counties.

How did you get into coaching, and how long have you been coaching?

I got into coaching through my playing experience, initially by helping my coach set up equipment for sessions. This is my third year of coaching.

How do you measure success with your team?

The most effective way I measure success with my teams at both U15 and U18 levels is by setting short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals for each player. These goals are regularly reviewed to track progress.

What coaching certificates/qualifications do you have?

I am UEFA C qualified coach and I am currently working towards my UEFA B qualification.

Have the skills you've learned in coaching helped you outside of football?

Yes, coaching has significantly improved my communication skills, which has helped me in situations outside of football as well.

What is the most rewarding part of being a coach?

The most rewarding part of coaching is seeing the players smile and making their day through football. Watching them develop, both on and off the pitch, is incredibly fulfilling.

What are your coaching aspirations?

My aspiration is to become the first Indian Premier League coach/manager.

Do you have any advice for those looking to get into coaching?

My advice is to embrace the challenge, try new things, and not be afraid to make mistakes. It's all about trial and error. Also, observe other coaches, take notes, and gather ideas that can help you grow.
