Bronze Medal for Nathan Edge and the England Blind Team

Blind footballer Nathan Edge - a player that started at the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA Blind Talent Hub just over 18 months ago - picked...
Taking place in Berlin, Nathan was selected to represent his country after training with the County FA and at Royal National College’s Sports Academy in Hereford.

England started the tournament brightly and won group games against Romania (6-0), France (7-0) and Italy (6-0) to secure a spot in the semi-final against Spain.

Unfortunately, a penalty shootout defeat followed a 2-2 draw in normal time, which meant England missed out on a place in the final but instead secured a place in a bronze medal play-off against France – a game they won 2-0.

Philippa Bass, Disability Football Development Officer, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Nathan’s achievements at the European Championships in Berlin. Nathan lives in Mansfield, but attends our Blind Talent Hub which we deliver for the East Midlands.

“We run regular sessions for new players and for those just starting the game. If you’re blind or know of someone who is, please get in touch with me on Philippa.Bass@LeicestershireFA.com or 0116 284 4952 and I’ll find an opportunity that’s right for you. We’re also looking to develop women’s disability football in Leicestershire so I’d love to hear from any budding female players with a visual impairment as well.”
