County Cup Football Showcases Girls' Talent in Leicestershire and Rutland

Leicestershire & Rutland County FA hosted two brilliant County Cup finals at Holmes Park with the Girls U14 and U15 finals on display

On Sunday, April 14, the spirit of girls' football was on full display at Holmes Park as the Leicestershire and Rutland County FA hosted an electrifying Super Sunday County Cup Football event. The day, hailed as a brilliant advertisement for girls' football in the county, witnessed thrilling clashes and remarkable talent from young athletes.

The morning kicked off with the highly anticipated showdown in the Howes Percival Girls Under 15 County Cup featuring Cosby United Youth & Junior Girls U15 against Beaumont Park U15 Girls. The match, a testament to the growing prowess of girls' football, ended in a 2-2 draw in full time, pushing the game into a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

Beaumont Park dominated much of the first half, scoring two first half goals, but were met with a resurgence from Cosby United, who managed to pull the game back in the second half. Ultimately, it was Beaumont Park U15 Girls who clinched the victory with a 3-1 win in penalties, showcasing their composure and skill under pressure, with much credit going to the MDH Player of the Match, Neveah B, who saved two penalties in the shootout.

 Girls Under 14 County Cup Final

In the afternoon, the excitement continued to soar as the Soar Valley Press Girls Under 14 County Cup took centre stage. Coalville Town Ravens U14 Rookettes squared off against Sporting Markfield U14 Girls in a fiercely contested battle.

The Rookettes started the game much stronger and scored two brilliant goals thanks to Chloe L and Violet B. However, Markfield didn’t lose hope throughout the game and grabbed a goal when Ruby B fired a delightful freekick from 25 yards to pull one back for her side. Despite the tough opposition, Coalville Town held on to their lead and emerged triumphant with a narrow 2-1 victory.

The event, which drew an impressive crowd of over 600 spectators, served as a platform to celebrate the talent and dedication of young female footballers in the region. The enthusiasm and energy exhibited by the players resonated with parents and supporters, further fuelling the momentum behind girls' football in Leicestershire and Rutland.
