Kevin Friend visits a school on World book day

Eyres Monsell Primary School pupils were excited to receive their brand new kit as part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme yesterday and welcomed Kevin Friend, Premier League referee, with big smiles.

Pupils and staff from Eyres Monsell Primary School were delighted to welcome Premier League referee Kevin Friend yesterday (Wednesday 28 February) where he helped launch the Leicestershire school's Premier League Reading Stars programme, as well as hand out their new Premier League Primary Stars kit and equipment pack.

Eyres Monsell were awarded the kit and equipment pack after signing up to the free-to-use Premier League Primary Stars programme. The pack contains a full set of playing kit and equipment, including 15 football shirts, shorts and pairs of socks, as well as a set of cones for use during football sessions. This will hugely benefit pupils of all ages participating in after school sports who would not ordinarily have access to such resources.

Premier League Primary Stars is a curriculum-linked education programme for primary schools in England and Wales which uses the appeal of the Premier League and its clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.

Delivered by the Football Foundation, the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme gives teachers a range of equipment that can be used across different curriculum areas to get children active.

Premier League Primary Stars provides a free downloadable suite of resources for teachers across Key Stages 1 and 2 in English, Maths, PE and PSHE. The easy-to-use materials have been developed in partnership with education organisations including the National Literacy Trust and the PSHE Association.

Premier League referee Kevin Friend, said: “Premier League Primary Stars is a fantastic programme which is inspiring children to develop both academically and through sport. I am delighted to come to Eyres Monsell Primary School to help award the school their kit and equipment and launch their Reading Stars programme.”

Mrs Kerry Hill, Eyres Monsell Primary School Headteacher, said: “This resource will go a very long way to help children across the school take part in football and encourage those less willing to participate. In the process we are confident this will boost the self-esteem and physical wellbeing of our children. We would like to thank the Premier League for gifting the kit and equipment pack.”
